Laura is a strategic executive leader with almost 40 years of experience in publicly traded and privately held organizations spanning the financial services, organizational consulting, food services, retail and accounting/audit industries. She retired from USAA in December 2020 after a nearly 20-year career with the Fortune 100 financial services company including more than six years as its Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. As a member of USAA’s Executive Council, Laura was responsible for developing and executing strategy while directing activities across enterprise-wide financial management and reporting, including treasury, controller, tax, planning and forecasting, and strategic cost management. Her team also provided governance and oversight for investment strategy and management of all institutional and benefit plan portfolios with assets totaling over $100 billion.

Laura has a long and successful track record leading strategic finance initiatives. Prior to joining USAA as Assistant Vice President of Internal Audit, Laura spent nine years with Luby’s, Inc., a publicly traded cafeteria-style restaurant chain, holding several leadership roles including Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Laura has effectively blended her board and executive experience with this passion by providing leadership to several military-related organizations including the 37th Training Wing at Lackland Air Force Base, where she served two years as Honorary Commander, and the United Way of San Antonio, where she served on the Executive Committee as Treasurer. Laura also has served on the Advisory Board of FM Global and as a member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance (FACI).

She is a graduate of The University of Texas in Austin where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting with Highest Honors. Laura also is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Texas and holds memberships in the Texas Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). She is married with four grown children and several grandchildren.
